Description
The canton is a departmental subdivision. It is the electoral district in which a departmental councillor is elected. The cantons were created, like the departments, by the law of 22 December 1789. In most cases, the cantons include several municipalities. However, the cantons do not always respect municipal boundaries: the most populous municipalities belong to several cantons. Layer different from that of the pseudo-cantons of the comic Carto layer #58 N_CANTON_BDC_ddd) because the latter contains the canton of attachment of the communes (finer definition to be provided)
The laws (Organic Law 2013-402 and Law 2013-403) led to a redistribution in 2014 which was implemented for the first time in March 2015. The department has increased from 42 to 21 cantons.
This table has been enriched with the names of the elected officials, and it is updated during the elections with the names of the elected officials of the last departmental elections (currently 27 June 2021).
