Description
National nature reserves for the department of Haute-Marne and the departments bordering it.
Nature reserves are terrestrial or marine protected areas whose natural heritage is exceptional, both in terms of biodiversity and sometimes geodiversity. Whether they are created by the State (national reserves), by the territorial collectivity of Corsica (Corsica reserves) or by the regions (regional reserves, since the Local Democracy Act of 2002 which gave the regions competence to administer the former voluntary reserves and to create new regional reserves), these are areas that fall primarily under the Strategy for the Creation of Protected Areas currently in place. The nature reserves have a management plan and are classified mainly in IUCN categories III (geological reserves) or IV. While parts of nature reserves (particularly marine or forest reserves) may claim IUCN categories Ia or Ib, at the end of 2009 there was no integral nature reserve over its entire area.
