Description
European Directive 2002/49/EC of 25 June 2002 relating to evaluation and management
environmental noise requires an assessment for EU Member States
noise emitted to the environment near major transport infrastructure
(land and air) and in large agglomerations.
This evaluation is carried out in particular through the development of strategic noise maps.
the first series of which were drawn up in 2007 (1st deadline of the Directive) and 2012
(2nd deadline).
Article L572-5 of the Environmental Code states that these maps are "reexamined,
and, where appropriate, revised, at least every five years.’
Thus, the implementation of this review leads, in 2017 and as the case may be, to review or
renew the previously developed maps.
This document thus presents the main results of this third deadline.
which concerns the national railway network of the Department of the Pyrenees-Orientales.
Noise maps are drawn up in accordance with the indicators established by the Directive
European: the Lden (Day Evening Night Level) and the Ln (Night Level). Each
EU Member State defines its own periods (day, evening and night) knowing that the duration
each period is the same for all states (day: 12h/night: 4h/night: 8h).
In France, the periods have been defined as follows:
• Day/day: [6am-18h]
• Evening/evening: [18h-22h]

• areas exposed to more than 50 dB(A) in Ln
