Description

Homogeneous area according to agro-climatic criteria which condition grassland production. This zoning was based on the results of the SCEES (current SSP) survey conducted in 1982. It was determined on the basis of the following criteria: — climate (especially humidity) — medium altitude — geology (nature of soil and subsoil). They were reviewed in 1998 to work on areas of at least 90,000 hectares. They form the basis for the ISOP (Information and Objective Monitoring of the Prairies) system that provides yield estimates of temporary and permanent productive grassland. The 228 French forage regions exclude the low-forage departments: small Parisian and Mediterranean crown.
