Description
PGI Protected Geographical Indication is defined by Article 2 of Regulation (EC) No 510/2006. It is the name of a region, a specific place or, in exceptional cases, a country, which is used to designate an agricultural product or a foodstuff: — originating in that region, particular place or country — and whose quality, reputation or other characteristics may be attributed to that geographical origin — and the production and/or processing and/or preparation of which takes place in the defined geographical area. The relationship between the product and its origin is less strong than for the PDO but sufficient to confer a characteristic or reputation on a product and thus benefit from the PGI. A designation includes 1 to n denomination(s) and 1 to n products (e.g. the colours of the wines, which may be subject to specific delimitations).
