Description

Wind development areas (EEZs) are defined, on the proposal of the municipalities concerned, according to winds (“wind potential”), the possibilities for connection to the electricity grids, public safety, the protection of landscapes, biodiversity, historical monuments, archaeological heritage and remarkable and protected sites. The creation of a new EEZ is the subject of an application submitted by the commune(s) (all or part of which is included within the proposed area) or by a public institution for inter-communal cooperation with own taxation (EPCI), subject to the agreement of the member municipality(s) whose whole or part of the territory is included in the area concerned. It is authorised by the prefect of the department.A wind turbine development area is characterised by a minimum and maximum installed capacity of installations producing electricity from mechanical wind energy. Any new wind development zone (EDZ) must be part of one of the wind-friendly zones once the regional wind scheme is adopted.
