A project of general interest shall designate in the field of spatial planning a project of construction, works or protection which is deemed to be of public benefit. The GIP was established by a decree of 19831 and is governed by Articles R.121-1 to R.121-3 of the Urban Planning Code. It preserves a territory from exceptional environmental issues pending the introduction of regulatory measures
