Groundwater Quality Measurement Network (history)
Description
Location of the wells of the measuring network in 2008.The groundwater quality measurement network was set up with the aim of monitoring trends in groundwater quality in the rural area in a temporal and spatial sense. The measuring network functions as a recording tool of desired or undesirable developments in environmental quality for the environmental themes of dispersion, fertiliser and acidification. At the basis of the measuring network lies the design based on a classification of the provincial territory into more or less homogeneous units on the basis of a number of established criteria (e.g.: soil type, groundwater staircase, land use and to a lesser extent soil load). Within these units, a sample point density shall be sought to make statements with predetermined reliability and accuracy on the indicative quality of soil and groundwater in that unit.
