Water supply catchment areas
Description
Water supply catchment areas in Bavaria. Known, already defined catchment areas were checked for plausibility using uniform criteria and specifications throughout Bavaria, revised if necessary or, if necessary, also delineated on a small scale (processing scale 1:25,000 or smaller). For water extraction plants (WGA) without an already known catchment area, a small-scale initial demarcation was carried out. The processing was carried out taking into account the data available at the Water Management Office (WWA). In addition, no investigations were carried out in the terrain. The recorded area data are intended for use in a small display scale (≤ 1:25,000) and allow a first overview of the location of the catchment areas of the water supply. The limitation is generally based on hydrogeological, average hydrological and anthropogenic factors (e.g. hydraulic permeability, groundwater flow direction, groundwater recharge, abstraction).
(Note for the joint presentation of river basins with water protection areas: In principle, the catchment areas are delimited and displayed in relation to the individual WGAs. Sums and interactions between adjacent WGAs are ignored in this methodology. However, a water conservation area can be set for several WGAs. Concrete sums and interactions of the sub-basins must be taken into account in the design. In the case of large-scale, i.e. detail-scale processing for the design of a water protection area (processing scale approx. 1:5,000 or greater), the hydrogeological hydraulic boundaries of an underlying catchment area or its sub-areas must be enclosed with quality-relevant risk relevance. Similarly, worst-case scenarios such as maximum summer abstractions at low groundwater levels or changes in flow conditions (inflow direction, gradient) must be particularly taken into account in order to achieve a sufficient level of detail for the delimitation of the WSG. With a view to making the Water Protection Area Ordinance enforceable, the design of the water protection area or protected zones must be adapted to local conditions (e.g. parcel boundaries). Therefore, especially in the area closer to the catchment, the water protection areas usually extend beyond the described catchment areas.
As a result, it can happen in individual cases that the WGA-related catchment areas shown are smaller than the water protection areas due to this above classification or also due to different processing levels of the water protection area and catchment area. In these initially implausible cases, it is regularly necessary to know exactly the reasons for this.)
