Seabird monitoring Distribution 3-season periods
Description
This dataset includes the distribution for seabirds in the German offshore areas. The data are based on the surveys of seabirds carried out as part of the BfN monitoring programme. The surveys are carried out by the umbrella organisation of German avifaunists. A more detailed description of the methodology can be found in the monitoring reports of the BfN (https://www.bfn.de/vertebrate animals). The observation data are presented in the form of grid distribution maps at a grid size of 10x10 km (EU-GRID), with each grid cell indicating the determined value in individuals/km2 for this area. The density is determined for each grid cell by adding the number of individuals of the counting points within the respective grid cell and dividing it by the sum of the effort at the counting points. Calculations are made for each species of seabird for three-year periods (2001-03; 2004-06; 2007-09; 2010-12; 2013-15) and separated by season, with the seasons defined species-specifically. This results in four result data sets per species with the population density relative to the raster cells for each 3-year period.
