Work aid for estimating leachate pollution at contaminated sites
Description
If pollutants are mobilised by leachate at contaminated sites, there is a risk of contamination of groundwater. In order to estimate loads in leachate, a standard procedure has been used in Austria so far. However, its significance is limited due to the different properties of inorganic and organic pollutants. Even climatic influencing factors or soil properties have not been taken into account so far. In this work aid, the Federal Environment Agency presents a structured, pollutant-specific procedure for estimating the leachate pollution and the amount of pollutants that can be mobilized in the long term and describes the methods and methods to be used (elution studies, column tests, computational estimation) as well as their areas of application and limitations.
