Discussion 2030 Climate and energy policy goals
Description
In its Communication on the 2020-2030 Framework for Climate and Energy Policy, the European Commission proposes to reduce EU-wide greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. At the same time, the share of renewable energies is to be increased to 27% of gross final energy consumption. This proposal is based on a comprehensive impact assessment, the results of which and key messages are analysed by the Federal Environment Agency. The authors use indicators to compare the greenhouse gas and energy efficiency of the Member States. Based on this, they discuss options for a fair and cost-efficient distribution of the effort-sharing target and the renewables target. Based on national scenarios, the report shows the potential for greenhouse gas reduction in Austria and the associated costs and benefits.
