Description
The 1988 forest formations envelope was made by computer-assisted photo-interpretation (PIAO). The input specifications applied are: not taking into account polygons with an area of less than 5 000 m² and a width of less than 75 m, except for coastal forests or swamp forests that have been mapped from 20 m wide.
In the absence of IRC images in 1988, the different types of plant formations could not be distinguished. The analysis covers only forest-type plant formations taken as a whole. Plant formations which do not meet the international definition of forest are not taken into account. In addition, the presence of large clouds and shadow areas, particularly near the Pelee Mountain, has been able to affect the quality of photo-interpretation locally.
