Description
The “Geological Map of Saxony-Anhalt in scale 1:25,000” is a map of special geological mapping for Germany. It was conceived in the 19th century as a comprehensive map with explanations and in later years it was supplemented by further elements (“Geological Map of Prussia and neighbouring German Countries...” from 1870 to 1945, “Geological Map of the German Democratic Republic” from 1945 to 1990). The “Geological Carting Guide — General Basics” (Ad-Hoc-AG Geology 2002) of the State Geological Services regulates the general procedure for the preparation of geological maps throughout Germany. It forms the basis of the content description.
The data plane geology surface describes the rocks found at the surface up to a depth of 2 meters. Based on the digitisation of the “Geological Map of Saxony-Anhalt in scale 1:25,000”, the data is summarised in a 2-layer model. Transitions of the geological description between the leaves of the geological map were generalised. The encryption of the digitised content is based on the symbol key geology.
