Description
Surface water bodies in water management are those lakes, rivers, coastal waters and lakes that are subject to environmental quality standards. The purpose of these is to be able to compare the assessment of water between different countries and to facilitate the development of reference conditions. SMHI's mission is to identify and designate the water objects as surface water bodies in accordance with principles from the Water Authorities. The Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management will provide guidance on the mapping.
This product, which is based on version SVAR 2022:1.1, consists of 4 layers which are defined or preliminary water bodies.
Bodies of water consist of 16647 lines representing watercourses.
Seawater bodies consist of 6,925 polygons representing lakes.
Coastal waters are the sea areas lying between the coastline and the specific delimitation line (1 nautical mile beyond the baseline).
Coastal water bodies consist of 724 polygons representing coastal waters.
Overseas waters are the sea areas extending between the special delimitation line and the territorial boundary of the sea (12 nautical miles from the baseline).
Seawater bodies consist of 18 polygons representing seawater.

NB! Due to the fact that the geometry of the water bodies is based on data from Lantmäteriet's Hydroproducts, and these products are not open data, SMHI cannot create a WFS service for these.
