Natura 2000 Sites Birds Directive (SPA) Tyrol

Description

Natura 2000 is the name for a European network of protected areas established by the European Union together with the Member States following notification of the appropriate sites by the Member States (pSCI = proposed Site of Community Importance). This notification of sites must be carried out in a so-called “National List Natura 2000”. The Habitats Directive provides a legal basis for this. In addition to the Habitats Directive, there is also an obligation, in accordance with the Birds Directive, to declare the most suitable sites for the protection of rare and endangered bird species as protected areas (SPA = Special Protection Area). Protected areas under the Habitats Directive and protected areas under the Birds Directive are then part of the Natura 2000 network. The two directives share the common objective of safeguarding biodiversity through the conservation of natural habitats, wild fauna and flora and wild birds. The Natura 2000 Birds Directive (SPA) is part of the INSPIRE Data Theme Protected Areas (Annex I).
