Protected and conservation-worthy buildings (FBB)

Description

About FBB FBB is the Danish Agency for Palaces and Culture’s register of listed and conservation-worthy buildings in Denmark. The website consists of a public part where everyone can search for information, as well as a non-public part for the registration and case handling of the municipalities and the Palaces and Culture Agency. The FBB contains information on the country’s approximately 9,000 listed buildings and about 355,000 buildings whose conservation value has been assessed. In addition, the FBB contains basic information on the country’s more than 4 million buildings. This information comes from the Building and Housing Register (BBR), from which it is updated automatically. Listed buildings The registration of the listed buildings is the responsibility of the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces and takes place in accordance with the Act on Building Conservation and the Conservation of Buildings. All listed buildings are protected both inside and outside. This means that you cannot change the building without the permission of the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces. Buildings worthy of conservation The municipalities may, under the Building Conservation Act, designate buildings as worthy of conservation in connection with their municipal plan or in a local plan. The Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces can also designate buildings worthy of preservation. It is always the municipalities that are responsible for the buildings worthy of conservation, even if they are designated by the Agency for Culture and Palaces. Many of the buildings worthy of conservation have been designated in connection with the municipal and cultural heritage satlas, which were developed from 1990-2006 by the conservation authorities and municipalities. The atlases contain an assessment of the conservation value of the municipality’s buildings built before 1940. The conservation value is indicated on a scale of 1-9, with 1 being the highest value. The results of this assessment can be found in the FBB. A number of municipalities have since updated these assessments and supplemented by buildings which, for various reasons, were not included in the atlases. So far, about 355,000 buildings have been assessed their conservation value.
