Pension gap of statutory pensions by marital status

Description

The graph below shows the civil status of recent retirees and their importance for men (left) and women (right). The graph shows that almost three quarters of people who have recently taken their retirement pension are married (70% of men; 74% of women). The second largest group represented is that of divorced persons (15% of men; 13% of women). 1 in 10 (12% of men; 11% of women) is single. Finally, only a tiny proportion of recent retirees are widows (2%). This low proportion is the result of the exclusion, according to the definition of the population studied, of people who have recently taken their retirement pension and who also receive a survivor’s pension. This 2% therefore includes only pensioners who receive their own retirement pension without receiving any survivor's pension from their deceased spouse. The average gross pension amounts for men (left, red bars) and women (right, green bars) are presented below by marital status. The absolute difference between the two is indicated in grey. This is therefore the pension gap in euro. You can select yourself the marital status for which you want to view the pension amounts. The overall situation for all schemes is displayed by default. To better understand the pension amounts on which the pension gap is based, the following chart looks at the distribution of pensions among men (left, red bars) and women (right, green bars) by marital status. The x-axis divides the pension into classes of EUR 500 and the y-axis shows the percentage of pensioners with a pension in the class in question. You can select yourself the marital status for which you want to view the distribution of pensions. The overall situation for all schemes is displayed by default.
