Potential suitability of soils for geothermal collectors - EWK: Thermal Conductivity [W/mK] - OGC API Features

Description

This application provides developers, planners and contractors with information on the potential suitability of the near-surface subsoil (soil depths up to 2 m) for the production of thermal energy. Furthermore, thermal conductivity can be called up, which plays an important role in the dimensioning of geothermal collectors. Geothermal heat collectors often represent a sensible and more cost-effective alternative to geothermal heat probes if there is sufficient space available. In addition, they can be an alternative to geothermal probes in critical areas of water management (drinking water protection areas, healing spring protection areas, mineral water protection areas), which are often not subject to approval. The basis for the theme maps are the soil data of the digital soil overview map on a scale of 1: 200,000 (BÜK 200). The BÜK 200 is part of the soil specialist information system of the LGB. It provides information on the structure and composition of the shallow subsurface to a maximum depth of two metres. It should be noted that the maps are for orientation only. The thermal conductivity (W / mK) is the ability of a substance to transfer thermal energy in the form of heat. This parameter is of outstanding importance for the dimensioning of geothermal collectors. Important parameters for the thermal conductivity of soils are water content and dry raw density. Basically, moist soils have a better thermal conductivity than dry ones. The map shows the conditions for moist soils. The water content at field capacity was assumed. This corresponds to the amount of water that a soil can hold back against gravity. The time of field capacity is usually reached in spring, when the water reserves in the soil have been replenished by winter precipitation. The thermal conductivities shown were calculated using regression equations. The average values of the soil up to a depth of 2 metres are given. No information was provided for potentially unsuitable sites with shallow soils.
