Description
DEFINITION: The road register road address system determines the location of the register data in the database and terrain. The road address system comprises road addresses at a given time and a description of the connections between roads (road register nodes and interfaces). The actual road address is based on four identification data, which allow any point on the road to be located within a metre, measured along the road from the beginning of a given section of the road. This identification is the road number, the road section number, the road track number and the distance from the beginning of the road section. In addition, for certain types of data, information is used to specify the location on behalf of the road address, and part of the pavement data is collected on the basis of the bandwidth in relation to the direction of growth of the road address. In addition to the number, each road has its own name.
Road numbering refers to the numbering and division of roads into road sections. Road numbers are linked to road categories and the connection intervals formed by the road network, while the division into road sections is a matter of expediency to facilitate location. The road numbering is presented annually on a special road number map. The map is compiled separately for each district to describe the situation on 1 January of the year in question.

TIEREKISTER is a road register maintained by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, as required by the Road Regulations (1246/2009). The register shall indicate whether the road is a motorway or express road or other road intended solely for specific types of transport. In addition, the classification referred to in section 4 of the Road Act (503/2005) describing the traffic significance of the road shall be entered in the register. The register shall also include the length of the road by municipality and the date of release of the road to public traffic, as well as the most significant technical characteristics, equipment and equipment of the road from the point of view of the management of the fairway assets.
Since 1975, data on roads managed by the state have been collected in the road register. Since 1989, the history of road characteristics has also been preserved as the data in question changed.
The main purpose of the road register is to support the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency in road management planning and asset management. The data shall be located according to the linear reference system measured along the road centre line at a nominal accuracy of 1 m. In the 1990s, the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency’s internal road address system was connected to the geometry produced by the National Land Survey of Finland, after which the topological integrity of the network has been corrected in the 21st century. This enables the presentation and distribution of data in the road register as point and linear spatial data objects and as a transport network.
As the road network of national and regional significance is to be kept complete also in urban areas, the road register address system includes streets (and pedestrianways) that complement the network of public roads. This also covers the well-established routes for special transport, as well as the routes leading to zero point of an important signpost. The accuracy of the data meets the needs of general design, but is not suitable for building design or navigation.
