Peat protection programme reassessment 1994
Description
With the nature conservation reassessment of the raised bogs, the bog protection program was extended in 1994. In the reassessment, all 92 raised bogs with industrial peat extraction were assessed with regard to their current importance for nature conservation. In addition, for the first time, the agriculturally used raised bog grassland was included in the peatland protection programme due to its importance as a buffer zone and independent habitat for plant and animal life dependent on wet grassland and its function for biotope networking. Information is available on areas that are valuable for nature conservation from a national point of view outside the areas with mining permits.
