Geological and hydrostratigraphic profile sections
Description
Geological profile sections convey a spatial idea of the structure of the subsoil. The NIBIS contains information on profile cuts, divided into loose and solid rock areas in Lower Saxony.
The scale of the geological profile cuts is 1: 50 000. Therefore, loose rock layers could only be represented from a thickness of more than 1 m and solid rock layers from a thickness of more than 10 m. In order to improve the readability of the profile cuts, they had to be displayed excessively, whereby a 50-fold cant was chosen for loose rock cuts, and a 5-fold cant was chosen for solid rock cuts. It should be noted that the cant also affects the presentation of the storage situation. It causes an apparent dip, which must be taken into account when assessing, for example, very steep channel flanks or very steeply dipping layers.
The layers were summarized based on the most important stratigraphic, petrographic and genetic characteristics. Due to the scale-based generalization, only dominant characteristics were presented. Only locally occurring, low-powered interventions or small-scale special facies could not be taken into account. In addition, other geological elements such as tectonic disturbances, the basis of quaternary sediments and, often in idealized form, glacitectonic scales and plaice are recorded.
In addition, the profile sections contain information on the most important topographical elements (villages, water bodies, roads) as well as on water protection areas. The holes used in the profile cut are also plotted. While the lines of the loose rock intersections run directly through the drill points, the drilling for the solid rock intersections is projected onto a straight intersection line. For boreholes that have been upgraded to groundwater measuring points or wells, there is additional information on the location of the filter sections.
As a result of the hydrogeological interpretation of the geological profile sections, the hydrostratigraphic profile sections were created, whereby the geological layers are represented as aquifers and aquifers.
