Description
The DataTank is an open source project of the Belgian non-profit organization iRail and a [research group of the University of Ghent] (http://multimedialab.elis.ugent.be/about).
The DataTank acts as an adapter between data sets from an Open Data Portal, such as OGD Vienna, and developers who use the data. The data remains at the original source and is offered in various formats via an interface (RESTful API). As a result, the data is always up-to-date and the use of the data can be traced.
Using the graphical web application Semantifier, it is also possible to semantically enrich data sets and to describe the model of a data set as an ontology. These ontologies can then be compared with other ontologies available on the web so that the datasets can be compared with related stocks.
The DataTank thus generates unique URIs for each individual object of a data set with its descriptions and an RDF representation of the data (as N3, RDF/XML, N-Triple and Talis RDF/JSON).
