INTEMARES Benthic habitats of the marine space around Illes Columbretes - Mixed

Description

The information contained in this data set corresponds to the spatial distribution of the benthic habitats of the submerged environment of the archipelago of the Columbretes Islands. The distribution of these habitats was obtained by modeling (GAM) data on the presence and absence of these habitats and they were all united in a single map using a combination between the thresholds "kappa" and "prevalence" and the knowledge of the scientific personnel involved in the project. Additionally, data from the areas closest to the islets could not be modeled by GAM given the absence of environmental variables. Consequently, they were modeled by the scientific staff involved in the project thanks to information on the distribution of habitats obtained through video, diving and snorkeling and bathymetric information. The identification and definition of each habitat was carried out through the use of multivariate analysis techniques applied on data obtained with ROV and towed video as biological sampling techniques developed within the framework of INTEMARES added to the data obtained in the INDEMARES project. In total, 102 transects were obtained between 20 and 97 m deep (37 hours of video and 31.5 linear km). Biological results were integrated with morphosedimental characterization and environmental data derived from multibeam bathymetry and very high resolution (5x5) seismic profiles. The area comprising the data provided covers the underwater environment of the archipelago, including two SCIs, ESZZ16004 "Marine Area of Illes Columbretes" and ESZZ16010 "Marine Area of the Environment of Illes Columbretes". It is a data set composed of polygonal elements, where each element represents a benthic habitat. Each object is associated with a series of alphanumeric variables that correspond to the different codes and nomenclatures of the different habitats in the different international and national lists or catalogues and benthic habitats. The preparation of this set of geographical information began during the development of the INDEMARES plan, thanks to the 3 oceanographic campaigns that were carried out between 2010 and 2012 within the framework of this project. The geographical information collected is stored in a spatial database. These works have been financed thanks to the LIFE IP INTEMARES Project (LIFE-IP INTEMARES - Integrated, Innovative and Participatory Management for N2000 network in the Marine Environment - LIFE15 IPE/ES/000012). This integrated project has the challenge of laying the foundations to effectively manage the marine spaces of the Natura 2000 Network and complete the work and progress promoted within the framework of the LIFE + INDEMARES project, which managed to take a great step in terms of declaring new spaces.n step in terms of declaring new spaces.
