Germany - Bitterfeld / Dessau - Flood situation on 7 June 2013 - Area affected - Overview - P19

Description

Continued rainfall in recent days has led to heavy flooding in large parts of Germany. The local forces are supported by the Federal Police, the Bundeswehr and the Technische Hilfswerk. In Bitterfeld, the risk of flooding increases. The reason is construction work on a canal to close a dike breakage that has already existed for days. As a result, there is a risk of water intrusion into the Goitzschesee, which could flood parts of the city. On the other hand, the level levels at the trough decrease. The water levels were around 6:00 CET in Dessau - Leopoldshafen (Elbe) about 7.09m, Dessau Bridge (Mulde) about 5.57m, Priorau (Mulde) about 5.68m. The water areas shown in the map were derived from a TerraSAR-X scene taken on 7 June 2013 at 07:17 CET. RapidEye data with a spatial resolution of 5m serve as a background image. Please note that the flood situation in urban areas, under vegetation cover and in areas with steep gradients may not be fully captured due to radar geometry. This product was created within the framework contract “ZKI-DE” between the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) and the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR).
