Phase III plan for South Ostrobothnia
Description
In February 2013, the Provincial Government decided to initiate the preparation of a phase III regional plan for South Ostrobothnia. The themes of the phase provincial plan are peat production, conservation of peatlands, areas of the Finnish Defence Forces, bioenergy and bioenergy plants and energy wood terminals.
The Regional Council of South Ostrobothnia approved the III phase county plan on 3 December 2018. Five appeals were lodged against the Council’s decision, which were dismissed by decision of the Administrative Court of 17 July 2021. The phase county plan has been announced for entry into force on 23 August 2021.
The aim of the plan is, among other things, to promote the county’s energy self-sufficiency by assigning sufficient number of peat production areas to the needs of the energy industry, to ensure the preservation of land-based peatland sites and to promote the functionality and efficiency of the energy wood logistics chain.
The regional plan has been compiled on a scale of 1:250 000 and the data is suitable for general examination.
