Forest site mapping is an essential basis for near-natural forest management. It records and describes the forest ecologically important location factors and presents its results on maps on a scale of 1:10 000. The Southwest German method combines geographical, geological, petrographic, soil, climatological, vegetation, pollen analytical and historical facts and methods of investigation.
