Geological Map of Spain Scale 1:200.000 (2nd series)
Description
This Map depicts the materials or rocks that appear on the surface of the leaf, their spatial distribution, nature and geometric relationships. Cartographic units are chronoestratigraphic groupings, with lithology and common age formed by strata that are called formations, groups or members; other unstratified ones such as granites are represented. The structural relations between them are expressed by symbols which give the map a three-dimensional character that is complemented by additional geological profiles. These are the graphic expression of the deep geometric layout of the units that appear on the geological map. Through symbology information of a applied nature is added such as water points, deposits and mineral signs, the presence of fossils and other elements of punctual representation. Printed sheets include geological cuts, columns of the main zones or units, and various schemes (regional geologic and tectonic scheme, both at a scale of 1:1,000.000).
The nominal scale of the series is 1:200,000, but in the island territories it has been made at a scale of 1:100,000.
The digital information, geological map 1:200,000, chronolithstratigraphic legend and geological symbols legend, is stored in coverage format (ESRI). There is a guide that reflects their organisation and codification.
The IGME is responsible for the implementation of this series of cartography which it finances with its own resources.
The realisation of this mapping is based on the collection of existing information, mainly MAGA cartography at 1:50.000 scale, doctoral thesis and other research work.
