Global Sea Ice Type (GRIB) - Multimission
Description
The Sea Ice Type product is a classification product (multiyear ice/first-year ice) and covers both the Northern Hemisphere (NH) and Southern Hemisphere (SH). The sea ice type is derived from passive microwave and active microwave sensors using a multi sensor methods with a Bayesian approach to combine the different sensors. At present, it is not possible to do an ice type classification during summer from the processed channels. Accordingly, the NH ice type product files distributed between mid-May and 30 September do not contain any valid classification. Similarly for the SH, at present no ice type classification has been defined and SH product files do not contain valid classification.
