Near Real-Time Absorbing Aerosol Index from the GOME-2 PMD
Description
The Absorbing Aerosol Index (AAI) from the GOME-2 Polarisation Measurement Detectors (PMD) indicates the presence of elevated absorbing aerosols in the atmosphere like desert dust, smoke, or volcanic ash. The AAI is calculated using the spectral contrast at two ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths caused by absorbing aerosols from that of other effects, including molecular Rayleigh scattering, surface reflection, gaseous absorption and aerosol and cloud scattering.
Metop-A data are available in the Data Centre up to 15/11/2021.
