Development of the 2011 Waste Prevention Programme
Description
The Waste Framework Directive requires Member States to draw up a waste prevention programme. Its overarching objective is to decoup economic growth from the environmental impact of waste generation. The Federal Environment Agency analyses the current environmental policy framework, exemplary waste prevention initiatives, developments in the field of waste prevention indicators and the challenges to material flow and waste management. The focus is on the efficient handling of food, the import dependency of metals and the prevention of waste through repair and re-use. On this basis, a list of around 70 waste prevention measures was drawn up, which — within the framework of the Federal Waste Management Plan — form the basis for the waste prevention programme 2011.
