GHS-BUILT-V ARCTIC R2025A – gridded building volume estimates for the Arctic region (1975-2030)

Description

These spatial raster datasets depict the distribution of building volume between 1975 and 2030 in 5-year intervals for two functional use components, including a) the total building volume and b) the non-residential (NRES) building volume. GHS-BUILT-V_ARCTIC_R2025A is a subset of the GHS-BUILT-V_GLOBE_R2023A product, and has been reprojected from World Mollweide projection (ESRI:54009) to the North Pole LAEA Europe reference system (EPSG:3575) using VectorCubeWarp, a tool for volume-preserving, gridded data cube resampling using areal interpolation. The underlying global building volume estimates in BUILT-V_GLOBE_R2023A are made by cell-level multiplication of the average building height for the year 2018 (GHS_BUILT_H_ANBH_E2018_GLOBE_R2023A_54009_100_V1_0, derived from Sentinel-2 and digital elevation model data) which is assumed to be constant over time, with the multitemporal built-up surface estimates (GHS-BUILT-S_GLOBE_R2023A, GHS-BUILT-S_NRES_GLOBE_R2023A, derived from joint assessment of Sentinel-2 and Landsat data).
