Hamburg Air Measurement Network (HaLm)

Description

The Hamburg Air Measurement Network (HaLm) * Operates 15 air quality monitoring stations * distinguishes between background, ozone and traffic measuring stations * measures continuously in accordance with EU directives and the Federal Immission Control Act The background measuring stations are used for general air monitoring. They cover the pollutant components sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and particulate matter (PM10: Particles less than 10 microns and particulate matter PM2.5: particles smaller than 2.5 microns). A station also measures carbon monoxide (CO). In addition to ozone (O3), the ozone measuring stations also determine the NO2 and NO loads. At the traffic measuring stations, the pollutants typical of car traffic are measured: NO, NO2 and particulate matter PM10 or PM2.5, as well as some benzene and CO. The measurements take place continuously in accordance with EU directives and the Federal Immission Control Act and fulfil the following tasks/purposes: * Measurements according to the EU directives for particulate matter PM10/PM2.5, sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), benzene, carbon monoxide (CO) and ozone (O3), implemented in the 39th Ordinance on the Federal Immission Control Act (39. BImSchV) ozone warning and information service * Information to the public * Provision of data for emission control permits * Establishment of data time series to determine stress trends * general monitoring of air quality in accordance with the Fourth General Administrative Provision of the Federal Immission Control Act After automatic and manual plausibility checks, the measurement data is stored in a database and can be evaluated at the headquarters of the Hamburg air measurement network with various software tools. Current hourly averages are made available to the public via videotext (Norddeutscher Rundfunk NDR page 678, Hamburg1 page 155) and Internet (https://luft.hamburg.de). In addition, the website contains summarized and historical data, characterizations of the measuring stations as well as further content-related explanations.
