Prussian General Staff Card 1 : 86 400 Half degree division 1816 - 1847 (HKPG)
Description
Prussian General Staff Card 1 : 86 400 Half degree division 1816 - 1847 (HKPG)
The 85-sheet map work of the Prussian General Staff was based on the maps of the neighbouring states in the older French scale 1: 86 400. The basis for the reproduction were the Tranchot/von Müffling maps of the Rhineland and supplementary measurements in the adjacent areas.
Geographical grid lines at a distance of half a longitude and a quarter latitude limit the approximately 41 cm x 32 cm maps. They correspond to 3 x 2.5 sheets of today's Digital Topographic Map 1:25000.
The additional designation ‘half degree division’ is derived from this, as 4 leaves (sections) each form a half degree division of 1° x 30’. The cards were reproduced in monochrome by stone printing. They were not published because of their exclusively military purpose.
A handwritten ‘Statistical Tableau...’ from 1837 provides information on size and population, agricultural yields, trade and industry. It is available as a monochrome print (81 cm x 54 cm).
