Sampling Box Corer INTEMARES_A4 Mud volcanoes of the Gulf of Cadiz

Description

The information contained in this data set corresponds to the samplings carried out with box corer during the INTEMARES A4 CAD oceanographic campaign in the SCI for ‘Mud volcanoes in the Gulf of Cádiz’ carried out between 6 and 20 April 2021 and which is linked to subproject A4 of the project ‘Integrated, Innovative and Participatory Management of the Natura 2000 Network in the Marine Environment’ (LIFE IP INTEMARES). The results would serve to improve and expand the knowledge of sedimentary habitats in the study area (endofauna present) as well as for the characterization of the sediment. This is the representation of the spatial distribution of the different sampling points made using the box corer dredger. The area covered by the data provided covers sedimentary bottoms of the Anastasya mud volcano (located within the SCI) with five box corer dredges being carried out and at a depth of around 450 metres and one box corer dredger on the continental shelf (outside the SCI), at a depth of 24 metres (due to inclement weather in the SCI) and which will serve for the monitoring programme of the Marine Strategies of Spain. It is a data set composed of point elements, where each element represents the exact point where the box corer dredger was made. Each object is associated with a series of alphanumeric variables such as the code of each sampling point, the name of the campaign in which the sampling was carried out, the date, time, the co-coded UTM X and Y, the UTM zone to which our study area belongs, the latitude and longitude in decimal degrees, the depth and a brief description as well as interesting observations of each sampling point. The development of this set of geographical information began in April 2021 thanks to the INTEMARES A4 CAD oceanographic campaign. The geographical information collected is stored in a spatial database. These works have been financed thanks to the LIFE IP INTEMARES Project (LIFE-IP INTEMARES - Integrated, Innovative and Participatory Management for N2000 network in the Marine Environment - LIFE15 IPE/ES/000012). This integrated project has the challenge of laying the foundations to effectively manage the marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network and complete the work and progress promoted within the framework of the LIFE + INDEMARES project, which managed to take a great step in terms of declaring new areas.
