Origin analysis of PM10 and its ingredients
Description
Particulate matter can be transported over several hundred kilometers and thus lead to an increased load even far away from its place of origin. The extra-alpine region of Austria – the cities of Vienna, Linz, Salzburg and Graz were examined – is reached by long-distance transport of dust from large emitters and cities in Eastern Central Europe. Regional accumulation of pollutants also plays an important role. The contribution of long-distance transport to the urban background pollution of particulate matter lies in the non-alpine cities of Austria between 15 and 45 %, that of regional accumulation between 30 and 45 %. The main regions of origin are Romania, Northern Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovenia.
