Landscape history maps of the Provincial Museum of Southwest Finland
Description
At the Turku Provincial Museum, landscape history is studied using old maps, mainly large-scale maps from the late 18th century. Among them, the location of old villages, fields, meadows and roads can be studied.
The original maps are photographed digitally and the images are taken into a spatial data program, where they are attached to the current basic maps with the help of counterpoints. The content of the maps is drawn clean and the related documentation is recorded in the table.
The drawn map can be opened on top of the current basic map and thus locate the historical landscape structure in relation to the current one.
