Urban green Flanders, recording 2002-2003
Description
Commissioned by the Agency for Nature and Forests (ANB), Green Policy Unit, the Agency for Geographic Information (AGIV) carried out a classification of the IKONOS images (2002-2003) to extract useful information for urban green policy. With relatively high accuracy (90%) it turned out to be possible to map the vegetation across Flanders. The distinction between ‘agriculture green’ and ‘urban green’ was made on the basis of the agricultural parcel maps of 2002 and 2003. Within vegetation, an additional distinction was made between ‘grass’ and ‘vegetation’ (accuracy 70%-85%).
