Description
A water plant is a plant for the treatment and supply of drinking water. Essential components include filters, pumps and often also a water reservoir or water tank. In addition, there are high tanks, fittings and control rooms, where the distribution of the drinking water into the pipeline network is controlled and monitored. In larger waterworks, laboratories are also operated that control the chemical and biological composition of the water. If the water supply is from the groundwater, the water works are usually located directly at the wells. The site is usually designated as Zone I of a drinking water protection area. Also groundwater enrichment plants, which bring additional flow water from rivers or streams into the groundwater (urfer filtration), are often part of such a waterworks.
