Description
The soil information on the soil map relates to the nature and composition of the topsoil (soil type) with a further subdivision by soil formation, peat type, different layers in the profile, presence of lime and disturbances due to excavation and levelling. The map usually does not provide any soil-based information in urban areas at the time of mapping.
New in this version is that all map surfaces are linked to ‘derived profiles’ (also called standard profiles or profile sketches). These are representative soil profiles for the units on the soil map. For all soil units with a rural area of at least 2000 ha, derived profiles provide information on important characteristics. In total, 367 different soil units have been described with a description of the layer structure up to 1.20 m depth with the soil information per horizon or layer.
The country-wide, digital version is a polygon file on the scale 1:50:000. This is the recording scale of the data and gives the corresponding detail at that scale level (1 cm2 on the map = 25 ha in the terrain).
