A hydrogeological unit is a rock body which, due to its petrography, texture or structure, has uniform hydrogeological properties within a defined range and is bounded by stratum boundaries, facies boundaries, erosion margins or disturbances (Hydrogeological Mapping Guide 1997, Geol.Jb.G2:59). The hydrogeological units are the smallest building blocks from which the hydrogeological subspaces, spaces and large areas can be constructed in characteristic combinations.
