Description
Families with children in Vantaa by number of children (children under 18) as of 31 December 1998.
Families include married, cohabiting or registered partners living together and their unmarried children, one of the parents with unmarried children and childless married or cohabiting couples or those living in a registered partnership. The family consists only of persons living together, the lonely person is not a member of the family. There can be no more than two consecutive generations in a family. If several generations live together, a family is formed from the youngest generation. Each person can belong to only one family.
The family statistics also include cohabiting couples without children and cohabiting couples with only non-common children. Previously, the family statistics included only those cohabiting couples who had children together. Cohabiting couples are formed from unmarried adults of different sexes living permanently in the same dwelling if their age difference is less than 16 years and they are not siblings.
Since 2003, the statistics also include registered partnerships, as a law entered into force on 1 March 2003 allowing same-sex couples to register their partnerships. As of 2017, the statistics also include same-sex married couples, as an amendment to the Marriage Act entered into force on 1 March 2017, according to which same-sex couples may have entered into marriage.
The statistics on the family structure of the population are based on data from the Population Information System of the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (formerly the Population Register Centre).
