Soil Humidity Map

Description

The product includes two map layers that describe soil moisture. These raster maps are produced by co-processing data from Lantmäteriet’s national laser scanning and sample plots from Riksskogstaxeringen (SLU). The Raster cells have a size of 2 x 2 meters. The values of a raster cell describe the mean soil moisture during the year. The soil moisture map is based on hydrological modelling based on GSD elevation data grid 2+ © Lantmäteriet. Below is a brief description of the variables included in the product. SLU soil moisture map SLU soil moisture map was created by combining information in 24 different maps and using field data from 20,000 of the national forest assessment sample areas that are distributed throughout Sweden to train the model (through so-called machine learning) where it is dry and where it is wet. This makes the map suitable for different regions with different topography, climate, and soil species. SLU soil moisture map shows how likely it is that a pixel in the map should be classified as wet, it can be seen as an index where 0 is dry and 100 wet. On SLU soil moisture map, the colors indicate different soil moisture; dry land is red, moist ground is yellow, fresh-moist land is green, moist ground is turquoise and wet ground is blue. But the colors on the map “melt together” to get smoother transitions. SLU soil moisture map rated The graded soil moisture map shows the soil moisture divided into three classes: 1. dry-healthy, 2. fresh-moist and 3. moist-wet. Open water (lakes and rivers) has been classified as 4. Read more about the individual raster maps at http://www.slu.se/mfk.
