Moor-specific biodiversity

Description

The database allows the representation of the diversity of the reported occurrences of bog-typical species within the backdrop of the Lower Saxony bogs for species selected as bog-typical from the group of vascular plants, amphibians, reptiles and dragonflies. The database forms the basis for the presentation of two different data views.1. Range of a high proven biodiversity (red) up to a low proven biodiversity (blue) in the different bog areas of Lower Saxony. Range of a high (red) to a low (blue) proven variety of bog-typical species of the Red List in the different bog areas of Lower Saxony. The higher the number of points, the more Red List species with a higher risk level could be detected in a quadrant field. For the interpretation of the data, it should be noted that the species data are not systematically collected nationwide due to lack of human resources, but are usually based on reports from voluntary mappers with their own chosen reporting areas. Areas with a low proven biodiversity can therefore either indicate a really low species occurrence. However, the areas designated in this way may also indicate that no or only a few notifications were forwarded to the NLWKN from this area. The NLWKN may also have analogous data that has not been digitised due to lack of human resources. Names of fewer species can also mean, for example, that only certain species (groups) have been mapped. Under no circumstances may it be inferred from a small number of species indicated that such areas have no conservation value. Rather, it is to be assumed that areas with no or few species records signal a need for testing/mapping. Grid cells with a high number of species, on the other hand, suggest centres of high biodiversity. The dataset should also be interpreted against the background of the respective natural area. For example, it must be taken into account that near-natural raised bog complexes are generally less species-rich than near-natural low bog areas. Lower bogs, on the other hand, are used even more intensively in Lower Saxony, so that the biodiversity actually occurring could quite compensate in the purely soil-scientific comparison of high and low bogs. For an interpretation of the data, it can therefore be helpful to take into account the data of the bog biotopes.Quadrant is the quarter of the measuring table sheet (topographic map 1:25000). Quadrants are used for species mapping in Germany. They are part of the grid mapping of the species detection programs of the NLWKN Nature Conservation Agency.
