Term dry removal:
In this mining method, no groundwater is exposed when extracting the mineral resources. In the district of Nienburg/Weser dry mining takes place exclusively in surface mining. Underground mining for the extraction of lower-lying raw materials, such as coal or salt, is currently not taking place in the district.
In the district of Nienburg/Weser, sand and gravel as well as peat in the Lichtenmoor, Borsteler Moor and Siedener moor as well as in the Great Moor near Uchte are mined in the dry mining process. The only quarry in the district is located in the Münchehagen area.
