Quality Map of the Night Sky. Andalusia
Description
This is the first predictive map through which you can know the darkness of the Andalusian night sky at any point of the territory, without the need for expensive measurement campaigns. For its elaboration, an extensive night sky brightness measurement campaign has been carried out between 2011 and 2015 in which more than 40,000 measurements have been taken. This information, contrasted with satellite images and with the help of advanced statistical functions and geographic information systems, has been extrapolated to the entire Autonomous Community allowing, on the one hand, to determine the quality of the night sky at any point in the Andalusian territory and on the other, to serve as a reference to verify the impact of the measures launched since the approval of Regulation 357/2010, of Decree 357/2010, of 3 August. This is a pioneering and unprecedented action, the results of which yield very positive conclusions: more than 80% of the Andalusian sky has a good quality and more than 40%, very good.
