Soils worthy of protection in Lower Saxony 1 : 50 000 – Further references to soils with cultural-historical significance (WMS Dienst)
Description
Soils that are particularly worthy of protection include soils that fulfil the natural functions as well as the archiving function to a particular extent. In accordance with soil protection law, impairments of these functions should be avoided (cf. §1 BBodSchG). The peculiarity of the culturally significant soils lies in the fact that they represent documents of cultural history and have an archival character. Soils of cultural historical importance have been created, for example, by arable farming measures that are no longer in use today (e.g. fertilisation with plaggen and foliage litter). They are a testament to old farming methods and have preserved corresponding characteristic traces in the soil profiles. From a soil science point of view, these soils are significant because their anthropogenic influenced development is now complete and they are thus a soil science document of cultural history.
The dataset shows search spaces, i.e. only the approximate location, for Wölbäcker. They are based on surveys by the LBEG and are published by Schmoock & Gehrt (2017). The recording is not comprehensive for Lower Saxony and therefore incomplete. It is continuously updated.
The methods for determining the protection of soils in Lower Saxony are described in detail in Bug et al. (2019) is described. The evaluations are based on the soil map of Lower Saxony 1 : 50 000 (BK50) and further work of the LBEG.
