The biotope type mapping in 1997 was carried out as an actual state of play as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the construction project "Adaptation of the navigation channel of the Lower and Outer Elbe to container shipping". The mapping is the basis for assessing the changes that have occurred compared to the forecasts made in the EIA.
