Description
The Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla) developed the so-called national forests
multi-source Inventory (MVMI) was introduced in 1990.
Using terrain data, satellite images and other numerical geospatial data
production of municipality-specific forest resource estimates and map format
forest resources information. The majority of the country has produced 9 comprehensive
map theme set and Lapland 8. In the latest 2017 inventory
there are 45 themes, in addition to volumes of timber species, by tree species and
tree-stratified biomasses. The first product in the whole country was produced.
1990-1994; the latest ones are from 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011,
2013, 2015 and 2017. Metla decided in November 2012 to set up 2009
map-shaped themes to be shared openly and the results for 2017 are:
fifth for free distribution and third produced by the Natural Resources Centre
a map group. In the future, new themes will be produced every one or two years.
Map data are in raster form, previously in 20 m x 20 m lattice and
now 16 m x 16 m lattice in ETRS-TM35FIN coordinate system. The material covers:
land in forestry (from NMI land categories forest, goatland and wasteland). In this material
other land and waters are excluded using elements of the terrain database;
these mainly correspond to the NFI’s land categories other than forest, goat and wasteland.
