Human biomonitoring in sensitive populations.
Description
As part of a human biomonitoring study, the Federal Environment Agency, in cooperation with the University of Vienna, examined environmental chemicals, mycotoxins, phytoestrogens and endogenous estrogens as well as their metabolites in the urine of 85 elementary school children from eastern Austria. Relationships between exposure to certain substances and dietary, lifestyle and environmental factors were also identified. The first Austrian human biomonitoring study, which investigated such a wide range of substances, supports the demands and measures of the new European Chemicals Strategy for a Toxic-Free Environment.
